In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
— Genesis 1:1
You might look at the world around you in awe and wonder, and marvel at its beauty. Or you might see something else. Something dark and disturbing: streams of tears flowing from a sea of broken hearts.
Some of those tears are yours.
Amid suffering, desperate voices ascend to the heavens, “God, where are You?” they cry.
You feel their pain.
These tears have been shed before:
“As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? My tears have been my food day and night, While they continually say to me, “Where is your God?”
— Psalms 42:1-3
Indeed, God was in the beginning. But is He here today? Is He present in your life?
When Adversity Strikes
God is as much alive today as He was in the beginning. You are not beyond His reach. His love sustains you. He doesn’t promise to give you an easy life, but He will provide: if you will believe. . . if you will lay down your will and do what He says.
When adversity strikes, remember the God who created the heavens and the earth. He is bigger than the trouble you’re facing. He can deliver you from the hand of every foe.
But you must believe.
You can open your heart to God and be transformed, or continue swimming through stormy waters in hopes to make it to shore.
It won’t turn out good without God.
Turn to God
Don’t put your trust in idols made by sinful hands. Turn to the living God who created the heavens and the earth: faithful and true is He whose love never fails.
Hear His voice:
“I have made the earth, And created man on it. I—My hands—stretched out the heavens, And all their host I have commanded.”
— Isaiah 45:12
“Everyone who is called by My name, Whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him.”
— Isaiah 43:7
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
— Matthew 11:28
Yes, God is near. And His love for you is great!
