You’re Not Your Own Anymore

Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God, and that you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore, glorify God in your body and spirit, which belong to God. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)

How much does Jesus mean to you? Are you willing to give everything up for Him? Before answering that question, think about this: How much time do you waste on indulging in worldly pleasures—time that would be better spent reflecting on Jesus’ teachings? If we aren’t willing to give everything up for Jesus, then we shouldn’t expect to receive anything He wants to give us. If we aren’t willing to follow Him, then we shouldn’t expect to receive His blessing.

The world is filled with distractions, because Satan, who is the author of confusion, is at work, seeking to draw people away from Jesus. Where he works most effectively to accomplish this work, is through the emotions. Therefore, take care not to be ruled by your emotions; instead, get into the habit of seeking God’s approval before acting on your feelings. Remember, if you’re a believer, you’re not your own anymore. You belong to Christ. His thoughts should be your thoughts.

Don’t just acknowledge the name of Jesus by word of mouth, honor Him by conforming your life to everything He stands for. If He means everything to you, then you should want Him to be at the center of every decision you make. Don’t just say you’re a Christian; put your faith into practice by diligently making Jesus’ teachings a priority in your life. Instead of wasting time watching fruitless programs on T V, read the Bible. Tune in to Jesus.

What we think about most is what we value most. What are you doing to demonstrate your life belongs to God? How much do you value Jesus? Do you love Him enough to give everything up for Him?
