What Lies at the Root of Idolatry

Take heed, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil heart of unbelief, departing from the living God. (Hebrews 3:12)

What lies at the root of idolatry is man trying to dictate what God should be to him. It’s not up to us to tell Yahweh who He must be to us, but to embrace His testimony of Himself, without inserting our opinions into it.

Our heavenly Father doesn’t give us light to keep us in darkness, but to awaken our conscience to things He wants us to know. Sometimes, He deepens our understanding of things we’re already aware of; and at other times, He opens our eyes to the errors of our ways. Whatever the case, He always expects us to obey His voice.

Conviction could be difficult to deal with, for it calls for change; and sometimes that change could be significant. But as hard as it may be to accept it, it should never be ignored. You could try to run away from God all you want, but you’ll never escape His presence.

When Yahweh opens your eyes to the truth, don’t resist Him. Accept whatever He tells you, no matter what the cost. You have everything to gain by following God; but if you choose to harden your heart against Him, you could lose it all.
