To Believe in God is to Believe God

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts. “For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, And do not return there, But water the earth, And make it bring forth and bud, That it may give seed to the sower And bread to the eater, So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” – Isaiah 55:8-11 NKJV

believe in GodTo believe in God is to believe God. In other words, it is to agree with what He says. It’s easy to say, “I believe”; but sometimes we forget what we’re really supposed to believe in. God says that He will provide for us; yet when trouble comes our way the question often surfaces, “Where’s God?” God says that He forgives; yet when adversity draws near it is sometimes assumed that He is angry with us for some sin of the past and is thereby punishing us for it. God tells us to call upon Him in prayer; yet when answers don’t come as quickly as we would like or in a way that is appealing to the eyes, it is assumed that He isn’t listening or doesn’t care.

It’s not that God isn’t faithful to keep His promises and thus be all that He says He is; rather, we are slow to be still and know that He is God. The Bible is filled with all kinds of examples of God proving that He is all that He claims to be. It would do us well to read it regularly so that we may be reminded of these things. Thus, we will learn to exercise patience in looking for fulfillment in what He has promised, and prudence when it comes to making sure that our beliefs actually agree with what He has really said about Himself.
