He is the Word

by Christopher S. Esty on September 22, 2009

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” (John 1:1-5 NKJV)

What’s the first thought that comes to your mind when reading these verses? Perhaps you might be thinking about how Jesus was with God in the beginning. Or maybe you’re thinking about the divinity of Christ. Of course, you wouldn’t be wrong to think about these things. However, there’s something else here that people often overlook during their darkest moments.

You see, Jesus Christ isn’t merely the Word that ‘was’ in the beginning; He is the Word that ‘is’ always there; that is, Jesus Christ is with us right now. Turn to your right…turn to your left…look behind you…look ahead…look up…He’s there! It doesn’t matter where you are; Jesus is there to lift you up out of the pit of despair and embrace you with love.

So if ever you feel inclined to think that you are alone, remember these words and know that the Word is with you. Indeed, Jesus Christ is the Alpha and Omega of our lives, an ever-present help in time of need, and the Light that shines in the darkness. Let Him be the Light of your life by casting your cares on Him, believing that He cares for you; there is no greater love. Embrace Him and know that He is the Word who was, is, and will be forever and ever.
