“For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” (Philippians 1:21 NKJV)

We aren’t called to draw attention to ourselves, but to put the spotlight on Jesus Christ by telling others of all of the wonderful things that He has done for us. Indeed, this is our responsibility as Christians; but are we really living up to it? Many aspire to stand in the spotlight of greatness while paling away into the shadows of irresponsibility. For they hold out their hands in hopes to receive things that they aren’t willing to share, while ignoring the fact that it is better to give than it is to receive. Such people are gluttons for praise and attention. For they want to be looked up to and admired; yet they ought to be avoided, because their vainglory pursuits are filled with contempt and will ultimately end in futility. Indeed, they talk about Jesus; but they don’t lift up His name for the sheer joy of knowing Him; rather, they try to use His name as a means to materialize the lusts of their flesh and the desires of their covetous hearts.
Nevertheless, those who live honorably aren’t fearful of stepping out from the shadows when the call of responsibility penetrates their humble abode; they show the world what the light of responsibility really looks like by seeking to give rather than living for gain. And thus they testify of the works of Jesus Christ not only in word, but in action. In other words, their works are reflective of His works; and they give Him all the glory for it. Such is the call that we should all answer to; but are we really listening for it or are we merely looking for a spotlight to stand in? Concern not yourself with the task of trying to find a spotlight to stand in. Instead, put the spotlight on Jesus Christ, lifting up His holy name in praise and admiration. Give Him the glory that is rightfully His. Draw nigh to Him and He will draw nigh to you.
