The Fruit of Prosperity

by Christopher S. Esty on March 3, 2009

He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper. (Psalms 1:3 NKJV)

In the Wind

I think it is fair to say that everyone has had a situation wherein they looked at something that someone else had and said, ‘I wish I had that?’ It’s actually an easy thing to do when you think about it, especially when you take what you already have for granted. In fact, I think we do this more often than we would like to admit–within our hearts.

But does it really make sense to covet things that are destined to burn? Doesn’t it make more sense to embrace the blessing of God which has no end?   Listen, whatever belongs to the world will perish with the world as we know it to be; but whatever belongs to Jesus Christ will remain with Christ forever.

Don’t be confused about the part of the passage quoted above that tells us that whatever the righteous do, it will prosper. For you might be thinking that you have very little to show for what you have done with your life up to this point, feeling that your life hasn’t amounted to much. You might even be tempted to think that this promise is a lie.

But my question for you is this: what makes you think you have little? By whose standards are you measuring the worth of what you possess?

If you’re walking with God then you are prospering, but in a different way than how the world sees it. For it’s prosperity that doesn’t necessarily manifest itself in worldly wealth, but in love, kindness, truth and integrity. Nothing that the world can offer you measures up to the value of these things.

Therefore, don’t covet the way of the wicked; for the kingdoms that they have built upon the sweat and tears of the poor and innocent will collapse on their heads in due time.  Thus they will become exactly what their kingdoms are worth—chaff which the wind drives away! But for those of us who love Jesus Christ, we will live forever. And no wind of opposition, no matter how strong or mighty, will ever be able to move us away from our place within the heart of Jesus Christ.

With that being said, will you remain standing in the Day of Judgment or will you fall with the wicked? What you choose to do with your life now will pave the way for what will become of you then. So be wise therefore and reject the way of the wicked which ends in destruction; instead, choose the blessed life that has no end in Jesus Christ!

Leave a comment; but please Praise God in it.
