It’s About Worship – The Sabbath Part 3

All About Worship

The Bible says that “it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship” the LORD (Isaiah 66:23 KJV). Not some flesh, but all flesh; meaning everyone who would worship the LORD. And this is fitting too, since the Sabbath command has to do with worshiping God; and all people are expected to honor God by worshiping Him thusly.

“Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil. Neither let the son of the stranger, that hath joined himself to the LORD, speak, saying, The LORD hath utterly separated me from his people: neither let the eunuch say, Behold, I am a dry tree. For thus saith the LORD unto the eunuchs that keep my sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and take hold of my covenant; Even unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off. Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the LORD, to serve him, and to love the name of the LORD, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant; Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.” – Isaiah 56:2-7 KJV

“If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.” – Isaiah 58:13-14 KJV

Note: A close reading of the passages above actually disclose what it really means to keep the Sabbath day holy.

It should be quite obvious at this point that the Sabbath day was not only given to the Jews, but also to the Gentiles, that is, mankind in general. However, the question that remains to be answered is this: Is there evidence in the Bible that the Sabbath day continued to be a practice that Christians observed after the resurrection of Christ?

Before answering that question it is important to see if Jesus gave any indication that such a change would take place. After all, if a change as significant as this was meant to happen, surely He would have informed His disciples of it or at the very least He would have given a hint to it.
