He Gave It All

Acts 20:35

And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity—all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved (Acts 2:44–47 NLT).

Yesterday, some good friends came by to visit with us. Upon leaving, one of them gave my six-year-old boy $20.00. Shortly after they had left, my boy approached me with the money, asking me to give it to the homeless. It was one of the most beautiful acts of kindness I’ve seen coming from a child: he didn’t think about what he could buy with the money, but put the needy before himself. Indeed, I am very proud of my son!

If every member of the church would exemplify the same attitude of generosity towards others, we would affect the world in a powerful way for Christ; we would be the light He has called us to be! God doesn’t want your leftovers, He wants your heart. Give Him that, and you will truly understand what it means to say, “It’s more blessed to give than to receive.”
