Bible Verse of the Week – John 13:34-35

by Christopher S. Esty on January 12, 2010

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” —John 13:34-35 NKJV

Food for Thought

In many ways we fall short of loving like Jesus. However, just because we fall short of manifesting His love in how we respond to God and to others, that doesn’t mean we can’t live according to the desires of His heart. Of course, the idea of Jesus telling His disciples to love one another as He loved them suggests that they really weren’t loving like that. Yet Jesus still walked with them. Indeed, God is patient with us. For even when we aren’t loving each other as we should He still loves us, and walks with us along the way to the path of His righteousness.

Life Application

In what ways do you think you can better share the love of Jesus with others? What is keeping you from loving like Him? What will you do about it?
