Discussion Topic: Change

by Chris Esty on December 28, 2011

Discussion TopicPeople tend to shy away from change because they believe there’s no better place to be but where they’re most comfortable. However, measuring our level comfort isn’t necessarily a good way to determine God’s will.

From my experience, I’ve learned that God will sometimes lead people to a place to fulfill a specific need, and then lead them somewhere else when their work is complete. This could result in you doing the opposite of what you want to do, or have been working towards. It means you may even have to give up your dreams. Making this transition isn’t always easy, but it’s necessary for happiness. If you want to do God’s will, you must be willing to conform your lifestyle to His plans. That won’t happen without trusting God with every detail of your life.

From your experience, what are some ways God has shown you that it’s time to shift gears, so to speak, and move on to something else? How did you respond to His voice? What was the outcome? Feel free to share your thoughts by leaving a comment.

Don’t Be Deceived

by Chris Esty on February 15, 2011

“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them.” – Matthew 7:15-20 NKJV

Beware of ThemThere would have been no reason for Jesus to warn us of false prophets if it weren’t possible to be deceived by them. Such people are cunning, and could very well put you on a path that leads to a destructive end. “Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall” (1 Corinthians 10:12 NKJV). Your only safeguard is Christ. Always look to Him.

The Bible warns us: “To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them” (Isaiah 8:20 NKJV). I believe this wholeheartedly. However, we need to be careful not to make the mistake of assuming false prophets are easily identified by their words. No doubt, they speak things that are contrary to the truth, but much of what they say actually agrees with the truth. It’s just the right mixture of truth and error to lure unsuspecting minds into a web of deceit.

So what are we to do then? How can we know they are false if they speak words that are truthful? [continue reading…]

“There’s a fine line between doing what we’re meant to do, and doing what we think we should be doing with our lives. Only God can show us the way in which we should walk to fulfill what we are destined for. It is good to dream, but not all dreams are meant to come true. There comes a point when you have to stop dreaming about certain things, and do something practical with your life–to do what you are meant to do.” – Chris S. Esty

Don’t think of failure as an end, but as one step closer to success. For by failing you now know where not to step next. That’s called progress. – Chris S. Esty

“God doesn’t give success to enable people to live large, but to equip them to give largely. Remember the poor and needy.” – Chris S. Esty

“The more I grow in Christ, the more I realize how small I am. The burdens of the world are too heavy for me to bear. I can’t save the world; and frankly, it isn’t my purpose to do that. I’m simply called to be a light, not a pathway to salvation. So I must choose my battles wisely, and allow Jesus to be the Light of my life every step of the way, that I may go where I can shine most brightly for Him.” – Chris S. Esty

“The measure to which we see God’s faithfulness is determined by how far we allow Him to turn our hearts to His Heart.” – Chris S. Esty

His Law is Perfect – Psalms 19:7-11

by Chris Esty on September 15, 2010

“The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.” – Psalms 19:7-11 KJV

Everything about the Law of God is glorious! It doesn’t exist to make life burdensome, but to ensure happiness. It’s not the rule of a callous dictator, but an expression of love. Those who possess God’s love will adore His Law, treasuring it’s principles in their hearts and magnifying it’s beauty in their actions.

Many have been deceived into believing the Law of God has been done away with under the New Covenant. They see it as irrelevant. Yet, according to the promise, the law of God is relevant to God’s people. For God said, “But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the LORD, ‘I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.’ “ (Jeremiah 31:33 NASB).

No doubt, salvation is by grace, through faith in Jesus Christ; but grace doesn’t nullify the law. We are still required to uphold it. Those who speak contrary to this are not speaking for God, but for themselves. They are still under the Old Covenant, because they do not obey God, but walk in rebellion against His voice, just like those who wandered through the wilderness for forty years. See Hebrews 3:8-19.
