The Fellowship of Jesus Christ

“God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.” – 1 Corinthians 1:9 KJV

We aren’t just called to believe what has been written about Jesus Christ; we are called to enter into fellowship with Him. In other words, Jesus wants us to have a wholesome relationship with Him; one that is not demanding, but gracious and kind. Unfortunately, many people fail to see God in this way, assuming that He doesn’t have their best interest at heart, but only wants to enslave them and keep them from enjoying life. But this isn’t true at all. God loves us and wants what’s best for us. He wants us to enjoy life. Moreover He wants us to know that He cares for us. In fact, He seeks to show us these things in many ways; but all too often we allow the cares of this world to blur our vision. Indeed, we can depend on Him to be there for us no matter where we are or what our circumstances might be. He is faithful to meet all our needs.

But have we been faithful to Him? What kind of lifestyle do we really favor? Do we live in such a way as to honor God in all that we do or do we just look like another face in a crowd of angry people who don’t want anything to do with what He wants for us? Indeed, many would like to give others the impression that they believe in Jesus, but behave in such a manner as to suggest that they don’t want anything to do with Him. They talk about the love of God, but they don’t let it take root within their hearts; instead, they hate and despise those who don’t look or think like they do. What does the Bible have to say about such people?

“If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?” – 1 John 4:20 KJV

“He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now. He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him. But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.” – 1 John 2:9-11 KJV

Are we really walking with God or are we just talking a good talk? If we’re truly walking with God then there will be seen in us a peace which surpasses all understanding. Thus, we won’t walk about with a sad face; instead, we will be filled with the joy of the LORD. And we won’t be ashamed to let people know where that joy comes from. They will ask us why we’re so content while the rest of the world is in chaos, and we will tell them that it’s because Jesus Christ is in control of our future and has good plans for us. Moreover we will inform them that they too can have such joy if they would choose to become a part of the fellowship of Jesus Christ. It’s simply a matter of believing in Him and putting that faith into practice; it’s a matter of loving what He loves and avoiding the things that He hates.
